With the economic downturn taking a big toll on their corporate sales, one small business has come up with an innovative strategy to keep sales rolling. Licious Living, specializes in gourmet healthy food delivery and retail sales. Co-owners Deanna Embury and Katie Rodgers know as well as Madonna does, that innovative reinvention is crucial to staying relevant and fresh in a changing marketplace.

When their corporate catering accounts began dwindling earlier this year due to budgets being slashed; they knew they had to find a creative way to replace their corporate sales. "This time last year 30% of our sales were coming from corporate health & wellness programs" says Embury. Licious Living decided to continue to reach the companies that had made health and wellness a priority. Loading up their delicious, healthy meals on a trolley, they went into offices and sold meals off the trolley directly to the employees. "We know the companies still value their wellness programs, and that the employees were really missing our healthy and energizing lunches", says Rodgers. "This is really a win-win solution. The employees get to enjoy delicious energizing food, without leaving their desks, which leaves them more time to use doing something they enjoy."

Companies such as Flight Centre, which year after year are listed as one of the 50 Top Companies to work for in B.C have embraced the idea, making ThursdaysLicious Thursday. Says Flight Centre's Anna Fisher, our Healthwise department has various programs set up to ensure the health, wellbeing and happiness of our staff. Healthwise has teamed up with Licious Living to provide staff with access to healthy meals in a convenient way, and at no cost to Flight Centre. Licious has been coming to the Vancouver Head Office with a trolley of healthy meals for staff to purchase. Providing easy access to healthy meals is one way we care for our staff both personally and professionally."

Studies are showing that healthcare is growing at twice the rate of inflation in Canada.
