Imagine how easy life would be if healthy, delicious meals were delivered right to your door every morning ? eliminating all that planning, shopping, cooking and cleaning up.

It's now possible. New in town is a service that provides meals based on The Zone Diet, a system of eating that's gained converts among celebrities such as Madonna, Jennifer Aniston and Charlie Sheen, as well as thousands of others.

The Specialty Gourmet, launched this summer has already met with enthusiastic response from people convinced by the Zone's promise to optimize energy and minimize weight.

The pitch is that by consuming the proper ration of low-density carbohydrates to fat to protein (40 per cent carbohydrates, 30 per cent protein and 30 per cent fat), an individual will experience more energy, better mental acuity and gradual loss of body fat, among other benefits.

Vancouver registered dietician and nutritionist, Dianna Steele agrees that the Zone can be a helpful diet, especially for people used to eating lots of carbohydrates or for diabetics. "With the added protein and vegetables, these people really have a more balanced diet," says Steele. She says the Zone principles are similar to what she recommends but that its practitioners should be careful to maintain their calcium intake: 3 servings of dairy products a day or a calcium supplement, and stick to whole grains rather than processed.

The Specialty Gourmet's meals are prepared by The Lazy Gourmet, which also provides HeartSmart meals as one of The Specialty Gourmet's options.

Meals are delivered daily by 6 a.m. and are packaged in disposable, microwave-safe dishes. Cost of the service for three meals and two snack: 1 $39.95/day.
